1. Nothing optional runs before you choose
When you first arrive, only strictly necessary storage is used. Analytics and advertising technologies stay switched off until you accept them — the advertising tag is not merely blocked from setting cookies, it is not loaded at all. This is what Section 205 of the Finnish Act on Electronic Communications Services and the ePrivacy Directive require, and it is how the banner behaves.
2. What each category covers
| Category | What it does | Set without consent? | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps your session working, protects forms against abuse, and remembers the cookie choice you made here. | Yes — exempt under ePrivacy | Session, and 180 days for the consent record |
| Analytics | Counts page views and reading paths in aggregate so we can see which pages are useful. No cross-site tracking, no profiling. | No | Up to 13 months |
| Advertising | Microsoft Advertising UET, used to measure which advertisement led to an enquiry and, where permitted, to show relevant advertisements elsewhere. | No | Up to 13 months |
3. Microsoft Consent Mode
This site implements Microsoft Consent Mode v2. Before any tag loads, the site signals a default state of denied for advertising storage. If you accept advertising cookies, the signal is updated to granted and the tag is then loaded. If you decline, no advertising identifier is written and the tag never reaches the page.
The equivalent Google Consent Mode v2 signals (ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization, analytics_storage) are emitted at the same time, so the behaviour is identical if a Google tag is ever added.
4. Changing or withdrawing your choice
Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. Open the preferences panel at any time:
Your decision is stored for 180 days, after which we ask again. You can also clear site data in your browser, which resets the choice entirely. If you decline everything, the site works exactly as it does otherwise — nothing is withheld from people who say no.
